We’ve spent years caring for this land and this little corner of community, and now we’re looking for the right person (or people) to share it with. This isn’t just a house for rent. It’s an invitation to live close to the land, with neighbors nearby if you want them, but plenty of space to yourself.
One neighbor is across the creek, another a few hundred feet up the shore - close enough to swap recipes or share a quick hello, but far enough that you’ll still feel like the woods are your own. It’s the kind of place where you can lean into community when you want it, and retreat into solitude when you need it.
If you’re the kind of person who enjoys a friendly wave on the road, finds joy in improving the soil, and gets excited about spotting the first wild raspberries of summer, you’ll fit right in here.

Apple Creek is located about 15 miles south of Escanaba, Michigan.
This means that it's in the Upper Peninsula (U.P.). If you're not familiar, good! A lot of people in the U.P (called "Yoopers"). would prefer it that way. But the people here are kind, helpful, resourceful, and loving.
A few fun facts:
The U.P. is sometimes called “America’s best-kept secret” — with endless forests, lakes, and trails but hardly any crowds.
Escanaba sits on Little Bay de Noc, world famous for walleye fishing.
You’re about 20 minutes from downtown Escanaba, where you’ll find a cozy main street, local bakeries, and one of the friendliest farmers markets in Michigan.
Escanaba is proud of its small-town friendliness, the kind where people still wave when you drive by.
Within a short drive: Lake Michigan beaches, Hiawatha National Forest, and the scenic Peninsula Point Lighthouse — one of the best monarch butterfly migration spots in the Midwest.
Here, errands are close, but nights are dark enough to see the Milky Way. You’ll quickly learn that “up north” isn’t just a place, it’s a slower rhythm of living.
Just like good neighbors make life here special, having someone you can count on for the day-to-day care makes it easier to settle in. That’s where Darren comes in.
Meet Darren of MKKT Caretaking: the official caretaker of Apple Creek Acres. Around here, that means you can count on him for:
General maintenance and repairs
Lawn care
Snow plowing
Pest control
But Darren is more than the tasks. He’s the kind of person who can quietly solve problems or connect you with someone who can. Whether it’s keeping systems humming, handling worn parts, or ensuring the driveway is safe after a storm - he’s on it. And when a job calls for a specialist, he’ll know exactly who to call: be it a local mechanic, a contractor, or the best berry-picking spot in July.
As he grows MKKT Caretaking, we’re proud to feature him here. For you, it means peace of mind that someone steady, capable, and deeply rooted in the U.P. is looking after Apple Creek Acres.

Your future neighbors may not live right outside your door, but they’re an important part of life here. They’ve been in this place for decades, with a wealth of knowledge, stories, and skills they’re more than happy to share.
Need a fishing buddy? Hunting tips? Or maybe you’d rather debate the best place to find a pasty (you’ll want to learn what a pasty is, a Yooper must-have). Around here, those conversations are part of the culture.
In the past few years, the people around Apple Creek Acres have become all that and more. It all started when Sara decided to introduce us to the neighbors with a weekly experiment: baking her way through an entire season of The Great British Bake Off. Every week, a new recipe...and soon enough, a new circle of friends.
Since then, there have been happy hours, dinners, Fourth of July parties, raspberry picking, hunting adventures, and a lot of shared laughter.
We hope that becoming part of this neighborly rhythm will be an important part of your interest in Apple Creek Acres. Community is one of the best things about living here - steady, generous, and always ready with a story or a slice of pie.
We have a family of eagles who we see often
3 juvenile bald eagles tussling over dinner
Swans grace us with their presence every winter
Extremely shy, but we've seen up to 20 turkeys at once stop to visit
Red cardinals are a common sight
As are northern flickers
A rare treat from to see an indigo bunting
Pileated woodpecker, the largest woodpecker in N. America
